Kathakali preparations

this is for the rist
make up: this is Sri Krishna in preparation. in the beginning he needs the help of another to put the white paper as beard. it is fixed on the chin with the paste of rice powder.
green lining: then he starts applying paint by himself.
ok?
he is looking at the mirror
without head gear
painting (chutti kuthal) is finished.
out of frame: i had a hard time in getting these shots when they were doing their final touch ups. they were not posing for me. actually they were in a rush to run to the stage.
look staright: these shots are taken from above the shoulder of the artist.
look up: i enjoyed these fames. focusing on the mirror and shooting at it. i felt like laughing. i don’t know why.
full frame: unless you see the previous 3 pics its hard to say that its a reflection in a mirror.
touch up: every thing has to be perfect. even if others wont notice, you know that you have not done your best.
look there: making sure that the head gears wont fall of during the 3 hour play.
redady to go: steel nail is attached to the fingers. more visual appeal when showing signs during the act of play.
they do the make up themselves
last touches: this man will be playing the role of Devaki, the mother of Sri Krishna.
white lining: this man will be dressed up as a women, Yasoda – the step mother of Sri Krishna.
yet to complete: this man is preparing for kathakali, a classical dance of Kerala.
